A MAN suffered serious injuries to his arms after being attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier-type dog in Clacton.

Emergency services were called to Plane View Close at about 4.15pm on Sunday following reports that a man had been bitten by the dog.

It is understood the 27-year-old man suffered injuries to his arms as he tried to fend off the animal.

A 46-year-old man who tried to help was also bitten.

A witness, who did not wanted to be named, said: “The young man was mauled by the dog outside a house.

“I was told that it may have been his dog.

“He had horrific injuries and there was blood up the side of the house.

“The guy was also covered in blood – both of his arms were injured where he tried to fend off the dog.

“He was made to put his arms up to slow the blood flow while he was being treated.

“I’ve never witnesses anything like it – I was left in a bit of shock.

“It was very concerning – if it was a child they could have been killed.”

A spokesman for Essex Police confirmed officers were called to the scene after the 27-year-old was attacked.

She added: “A 46-year-old man intervened and was also bitten.

“He attempted to restrain the dog, during which it was injured.

“Both men were taken to hospital with injuries to their arms.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said an ambulance crews treated a man in his twenties before taking him to Colchester General Hospital for further care.
