POLICE officers were attacked by a man with a hammer after responding to reports of a burglary in Clacton.
Officers from the Clacton Local Policing Team were called to the town centre following reports of a burglary at a shop in the early hours on Monday.
A spokesman for Tendring Police said the officers were attacked with a hammer, but were not injured.
He said: "Responding to a call from a member of the public, officers were quickly on scene whereby they were attacked by a male with a hammer.
"The suspect then made off, but following a foot chase by two of Clacton's finest a man was detained for burglary, criminal damage and assault.
"Thankfully there were no injuries to the officers."
An 18-year-old, from Clacton, was arrested in relation to the incident and is currently in custody while detectives from Clacton CID investigate.
