SOME of the world's best cyclists will be racing around Tendring as part of this year's Tour of Britain, it has been announced.

Clacton will play host to an individual time trial stage which will see professional cyclists race against the clock in a loop from Clacton to Great Holland and back.

Racers will descend on Tendring on September 7 for the 16km time trial, which starts at 12pm.

They will follow a coastal course to battle it out for the OVO Energy Green Jersey.

The race is stage five of the Tour of Britain, which will see riders complete eight courses around the UK from September 3 to 10.

The Clacton trial is the only part of the race being held in Essex.

Stage Six of the road cycling race will take place entirely within Suffolk, heading east from Newmarket to the finish in the centre of Aldeburgh.

This year will be the first time that Britain’s premier men’s road cycling event has visited Tendring.

The district hosted stages of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour in 2014 and 2015, when stages of the world leading women’s race finished in Clacton and started in Harwich.
