DAVE Blackmore and Stuart Watson were clear winners in Colchester Golf Club’s Daily Mail qualifier.

The duo will now represent the club in the national competition following a fine performance in which they never wavered.

Blackmore (11) and Watson (ten) added to their front nine of plus two with an even better back nine of plus three.

The pair were four holes up on their nearest competitor with an impressive score of plus five, in the foursomes bogey competition.

Nearest to them were John Dornan (six) and the club’s vice-captain Mike Withers (ten), who returned a plus one score.

Ian Wigston (17) and Guy Lennox (eight), with a score of level, took third place.

Annie Johnston (14) returned a score of 35 points to put herself five shots clear of the field, as Colchester GC's ladies continued to play in the shortened format of 14 holes.

Margaret Carter (24) and Elizabeth Napier (34) both scored 30 points as Johnston's main chasers, while Maureen Devenish (17) and Linda Freeman (19) with 28 and 27 points tied up the top places.

Stephen Sheffield (13) continued the week's stream of runaway winners in Colchester GC's first walk-on stableford of the year.

He returned an impressive 40 points, despite not scoring on the tenth.

Sheffield constructed 20 points on each half to give him a four-point victory over Ernest Van Vredenburch, who was playing off a handicap of 12.

Simon Smith (19) and Patrick Logan (16) both scored 34 points, to take third and fourth place.

They were followed in by a trio of players who all returned 33 points - Andrew Schofield (8), Andrew D Smith and David Newley.
