• A BESOTTED former lover turned violent after being rejected.

Thomas Flanagan could not cope when his relationship ended so assaulted his ex-girlfriend, smashed her television and harassed her for a month.

Stephen Sparkes, prosecuting, told Colchester Magistrates Court: “It was about 1.30am on October 7.

“The defendant was knocking at her door and she eventually let him in.

“He came into the property and sat on her bed.”
Flanagan begged her to take him back but she refused and they argued over a cat carrier.

Mr Sparkes said: “He pushes her in the chest and picks her TV up and throws it on the floor. He says ‘I will knock you out’.”

Flanagan,22, admitted assault by beating, criminal damage and harassment after continuing to contact her.

The court heard Flanagan now accepts the relationship is over.
Flanagan, of Hayes Road, Clacton, was given a 12 month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay £150 compensation for the television and £170 in costs and charges.

Flanagan was also given a restraining order and banned from contacting his former partner or going to her address for a year.

  • A MAN has denied assaulting two people in Colchester town centre.

Paul Gladwell, 38, of Magdalen Green, Colchester, is accused of slapping and the pulling the hair of a woman on October 2.

He is also accused of punching a man to the head and continuing to punch him on the ground.

He denied both counts of assault by beating at Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was released on bail to appear for trial at a later date.

  • A MAN has denied repeatedly spitting in the face of his disabled father and damaging his window.

Ben Moran, 24, of Stour View Avenue, Mistley, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

He denied a charge of assault by beating, allegedly committed on July 12 at an address in Clacton. He also denied criminal damage at the same property. A trial will be held at Colchester Court in May.

  • A MAN accused of stealing a Ford Focus denies ever having the car.

The car was rented for one week from Europcar Group Ltd at a cost of £359.65.

Henny Tatum, prosecuting at Colchester Magistrates’ Court, claimed Luke Alderman rented the car but did not return it.

Alderman is accused of theft of a motor vehicle. It is alleged the car was worth £9,480 and he is accused of owing rental fees of £11,868.45 from April 2016 making a total of £21,348.45.

Alderman, 29, of Lexden Road, Colchester, denied the offence.

  • A MAN whose DNA was discovered on a broken car window claims he did not break the window but was attacked himself.

Charlie Gordon appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of criminal damage.

It is alleged he smashed the window of a car in Harwich and Stephen Sparkes, prosecuting, said his blood was found on the window.

However Gordon, 20, of Pound Farm Drive, Harwich, who denies criminal damage, claims he was cut in an attack and the blood went everywhere including on the car window.

A trial will be held at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on May 15.

  • A FRUSTRATED father fed up with how life was going went into a rage and started destroying items including a children’s toy and a remote control.

Mark Dice was visiting a home in Clacton when he lost his temper with the control.

Dice, 43, who now lives in Collier Street, Bishops Stortford, admitted one count of criminal damage and one of common assault when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Stephen Sparkes, prosecuting, told the court Dice went to the former family home and had an argument with his former partner.

Mr Sparkes said: “He threw the Sky remote to the floor, threw a mug in the sink smashing it, which smashed plates.

“He kicked a child’s electric motorbike breaking the plastic windscreen.”

His outburst also amounted to common assault as, while he did not strike his former partner, his actions amounted to assault by apprehension.

The court heard Dice had become stressed and fed up with how life was going and then had an argument over car tax.

He was fined £166, ordered to pay £50 compensation for the damage and £115 in costs and charges.
