GOLD medallist Saskia Clark will be handing out winning envelopes at the opening of Colchester's new Aldi store.

The supermarket is hosting its own golden ticket event to celebrate being open to the public this Thursday.

The first 100 shoppers in the queue from 8am stand a chance of winning a 48-inch Ultra HD TV, a four camera CCTV Kit and dual power carpet cleaner amongst many other prizes.

Colchester mayor, Councillor Julie Young will open the store alongside store manager Mike Reeve and the Team GB star.

A DJ will host the opening and there will be hot food for customers.

Mike Reeve said: “The team and I are thrilled to be opening the new Colchester store and we’re looking forward to hosting such a great prize giveaway.”

As part of its community engagement, Aldi plan to donate £250 plus products to the Colchester and Tendring Women’s Refuge, which provides support to women and children who are the victims of domestic abuse.

It will also make a product donation to the Colchester Emergency Night Shelter in the coming weeks.

Mr Reeve added: “We're proud to be supporting two important groups in the community and hope our donations help them continue the great work they carry out.”

A total of 40 jobs have been created at the 1,476sq m store, which stands at the former Staples site.

Aldi is still recruiting for roles including deputy store managers and stock assistants. Further details and how to apply can be found at www.aldirecruitment.co.uk.

Following its launch, the Cowdray Avenue, at Colne View Retail Park, will open Monday to Saturday, from 8am until 10pm, and Sunday between 10 am and 4pm.
