CLACTON Carnival’s week of family fun saw youngsters battle it out for the title of best sandcastle builder.
A total of 63 children made seaside creations with a metre-long mermaid added to the lot.
The Rev Susan Wiggins, judge and organiser, said: “It was marvellously successful. Everyone enjoyed a really lovely day.
“There were many lovely sandcastles, people were very gracious and got into the spirit of the competition. There was a lovely atmosphere.
"And with the warm sun shining gloriously, the competition also showed Clacton at its finest, at an event enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
“I’m certainly looking forward to 2017."
