AN assault victim who was left with a bleed on his brain and multiple facial fractures after being punched in the face in a random attack has urged anyone with information to contact police.

Clive Robinson, 60, was walking past the Foundry Arms in Artillery Street, Colchester, when he was struck in the face and knocked to the floor.

Mr Robinson had been walking home after visiting his partner at work when he was punched, and was helped at the roadside by pub landlord Chris Potts.

He was then taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital and transferred to Addenbrooke’s shortly afterwards, such were the severity of his injuries.

He has now been discharged and is recovering at his home in New Town.

He said: “I was attacked by someone who punched me, and then I fell to the ground.

“I lost conciousness for a little while and suffered a concussion and was then taken to hospital.

“I was walking the usual route I take through the side streets and away from the traffic and the cars on the main road and I was beaten up for no reason.

“If there was an argument it was nothing to do with me, and I am certainly not the type of person to be getting involved in any sort of confrontation.

“It was definitely an assault and not a robbery, I had some money in my pocket which was not taken.

“I am not 100 per cent healthy but am getting a little bit better slowly.

“However, I am probably more nervous of the possibility of people attacking others for no reason."

Detectives have established there were two vehicles at the scene just before the assault which happened on Thursday, July 21 at 10.30pm.

The occupants were arguing and the suspect got out of an Audi.

The other vehicle was thought to be a Ford.

A third car on the street had a partial index number of CE04 and police believe the occupants may have witnessed the incident.

Mr Robinson said: “Police think the people in the cars were having an argument and the person who did it thought I had stepped out of the car which was not the case at all.

“Whoever has done this has not got the right to be out there attacking people.

“It is absolutely appalling."

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Colchester CID on 101.
