BRITAIN’S former foreign secretary will be among four panellists at an Essex University EU referendum debate.

The university has invited Rt Hon Lord Owen and the minister of state for skills, MP Nick Boles, to be quizzed by students, staff and residents as they prepare for one of the biggest votes of their lifetime.

Kate Godfrey, of the Stronger In campaign, and John Longworth, chairman of theVote Leave Business Council will also speak at the Question Time-style event.

It will be chaired by Professor Heather Laurie, from the Institute for Social and Economic Research, who will become the university’s pro-vice-chancellor of research, in August.

Professor Laurie said: “We’re expecting a lively debate covering political and economic issues.

“For the many voters who have yet to make up their minds, this is an opportunity to hear views and ask questions of Remain and Leave campaigners.”

The Big Decision: In or Out takes place at the Colchester Campus, on Thursday June 9, from 7pm.

The drinks reception begins at 6.15pm.
