A SERIAL conman who has been on the run for two years has been found – in a Spanish jail.

Norman Fowler from Colchester failed to appear at Norwich Crown Court after being sentenced to three months for stealing camera equipment and six months for absconding.

Police have been trying to find him ever since.

Fowler, 38, of Propelair Way, is also wanted in connection with £21,000-worth of fraud.

Convicted fraudster Fowler is also wanted in connection with alleged scams on websites including Gumtree and eBay.

Videographer Tom Tailford, from Norfolk, who was the victim of the £10,000 camera theft, set up a website to expose him and track him down.

As a result, several other alleged victims got in contact.

Essex Police issued an alert to find him and it is understood Fowler has now been tracked down to Alicante where he is in custody on remand for gun licens - ing matters.

Discussions are now taking place about bringing him back to England for sentencing on crimes he has been convicted of and hold - ing trials for other alleged frauds.

A spokesman for Essex Police confirmed the warrant for his arrest is for conspiracy to defraud.

Mr Tailford said: “It is good to know he is in custody and finally coming back for justice.

“It is a relief. I was disappointed with the sentence he received.”

Fowler was given a suspended prison sentence for fraud at Hull Crown Court in 2008.

In 2009, he was arrested on suspicion of fraud and car crime offences and three years later, he admitted six offences at Chelmsford Crown Court and asked for 25 more to be taken into consideration. He was ordered to carry out 300 hours of community service.

Fowler was convicted of receiving £30,000 for goods he advertised online but never provided including an Audi A4 car and a Rolex watch.

In April 2014, he was charged with theft and in December, he was convicted of theft in his absence at Norwich Crown Court and sentenced to nine months in prison.

At the time he was renting a flat in Alicante.
