DOUBLE yellow lines are to be painted on a "dangerous" junction outside a school.

The North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP) has agreed to line Upland Drive and a stretch of St Christopher Road, outside Colchester's Friar's Grove Primary School.

It comes after a year-long campaign outside the school.

'Think Before You Park' was backed by Essex Police, school bosses and councillors.

Paul Smith, a Lib Dem Colchester councillor for St John's, said: "We have now had the partnership confirm it is going to put double yellow lines in to stop people parking near to the school."

He added: "We did a survey last year and wrote to all the residents in the area asking their views on it and it was very well-backed.

"It can be quite dangerous at school times with cars parking where they shouldn't be, on grass verges and things like that.

"We're grateful to the partnership for agreeing the work."

NEPP bosses have confirmed the work will be carried out this year.
