A DATE has been set for a meeting of supporters of a campaign to honour one of Colchester's forgotten heroes.
History lover David Grocott is calling for recognition for Colchester priest John Ball who was executed for his outspoken views on social equality.
Ball, who was a leading figure in the Peasants' Revolt in 1381, was born in Peldon and preached in St James the Great Church in Colchester and yet the only reference to him in the town is John Ball Walk.
Mr Grocott wants a statue created of Mr Ball and possibly a charity foundation set up in his name.
The first meeting will be on Sunday in the back meeting room of the Odd One Out pub in Mersea Road, Colchester, starting at 5pm.
Discussions will include details of a sculpture competition. For more details, go to the Facebook page Let's put up a statue to John Ball in Colchester or email degrocott@gmail.com
