A COMMUNICATIONS team leader is to pound the streets of London to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Tom Jack, 28, from Colchester, was able to take part in the London Marathon having received the nomination from the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The charity backed his bid after he took part in their Spartan challenge last year.

He needed to reach a minimum of £2,000 but after smashing that target, he now wants to raise double that figure.

He recently held a charity golf day and auction at the Colne Valley Golf club which raised £1,319.

Mr Jack, who went to the Colne Community School and grew up in Brightlingsea, has a strong personal connection to the charity as his mum has been receiving treatment for the past eight years.

"I want to put its name out there and raise awareness for the charity," he said.

"The Royal Marsden has been nothing short of amazing in their efforts and support in trying to cure my mother from this horrible disease.

"I would not say I am confident about the marathon. I was out for a couple of months with a knee injury but I ran 18 miles last weekend.

"They say you should only run up to 20 miles and the adrenaline will get you through the rest."
