A MAN has been released on bail while police continue their investigation following a serious attack in Colchester.

The victim remains is in a critical condition following an assault in St Botolph's Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police were contacted with reports of a disturbance shortly before 3.30am near Fashion Cafe.

A 31-year-old man from London was found unconscious and taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

He is in a critical but stable condition.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We received a call yesterday at 3.26am to reports of a man who had suffered a serious head injury on Queen Street, Colchester.

“An ambulance crew was dispatched and was on scene in less than seven minutes to treat the patient, believed to be in his 30s, who was unconscious but breathing.

“After receiving treatment at the scene, he was quickly conveyed to hospital.”

A 29-year-old man from Colchester was arrested on suspicion of GBH on Sunday afternoon.

He has been released on bail until April 10.
