A MAN has been flown to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at the scene of a car crash.
The smash between a red Citroen C3 and a green Toyota Corolla happened just after 10am on Colchester Road, West Bergholt.
Two ambulance crews and an ambulance officer attended the scene and managed to restart the man's heart.
The patient in his 60s was airlifted to Basildon Hospital in the air ambulance for further treatment and is described as being "in a very serious condition".
A female patient was taken to Colchester General Hospital with minor injuries.
The road is closed at the junction with Nayland Road whilst the vehicles are being recovered.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Motorists are thanked for their patience and asked to take alternative routes until the road has been reopened."
Update 3.50pm: The road has now reopened.
