A SECOND attempt to bring the iconic Tower of London poppy display to Colchester has been unsuccessful.

Colchester Council applied to have the display on show at Colchester Castle, but has been turned down.

The town’s bid to have the Poppy Wave or the Weeping Window exhibition at the end of this year was also unsuccessful.

The Black Watch Museum in Perth, Caernarfon Castle in Gwynedd and Lincoln Castle were chosen to have the display next year.

These locations were chosen because of their connections to the First World War.

Annie Feltham, councillor responsible for communities at Colchester Council, said: “It is very disappointing that we were unsuccessful in this application to secure one of the poppy sculptures for 2016.

Gazette:

“We believe Colchester Castle would have made a fantastic venue for one of the installations.”

About 5million people went to see the display of 888,246 ceramic poppies in London between August and November last year, including the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
