A CRICKET club has submitted ambitious plans to extend their pavilion and create additional changing rooms.
Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club, based in Castle Park, wants to increase the number of changing rooms from two to four.
Andrew Kennedy, chairman, said the project could cost £500,000.
He said: “We have been in discussion for a couple of years and initially we wanted to builda new pavilion.
“Now we have got two pitches and a much larger membership we need more changing rooms because at the moment there are only two.
“There are women’s teams and junior teams which need to have changing facilities segregated. We would also like to install new toilet facilities, disabled facilities and change the way the bar storage is set up as the cellar floods quite frequently because it is so close to the River Colne.
“The project is wholly dependent on us getting grant funding and if not we will have to scale back the plans. Obviously the club will be looking to raise money as well.
“The price is a little bit up in the air depending on what sort of specification we go for but it is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £500,000.”
Colchester Council has the final say on the plans.
