A DAD has decided to show the true spirit of Christmas – by inviting a lonely older person into his family’s home.

Adam White, from Elmstead Market, wants to start a scheme to support isolated members of the community by making them be part of a family for the day.

He said: “My nan died ten years ago in June and my grandad passed away the following year.

“They had been together since they were 15 and were together all that time until they were about 70.

“In all that time my grandad has had one Christmas without my nan.

“It got me thinking I should start something. No one should be alone at Christmas.”

Car mechanic Mr White, father to Amelia, three, and Tayla, nine, started a campaign on Facebook.

He explained: “There are people who have more than we have, but you just need one day a year to help people.

“I’ve had so many comments from people, telling me that they want to do it, too. I’m just trying to get the right people behind me. Why should the elderly be alone when there are people like me that can provide a home?”
