CENTERIAN Ivy Palmer has joined an exclusive club as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs Palmer enjoyed her landmark birthday celebrations surrounded by friends and family.

Mrs Palmer originally came from Bracknell and worked in a factory growing carnation flowers.

She was married to her husband, Tom, who predeceased her.

Mrs Palmer moved to Colchester four years ago to be closer to her nieces and now lives in Colonia Court care home of St Andrew's Avenue.

Margaret Siedlecka, the manager of Mumford House, where she lives, said: “Ivy really enjoyed her 100th birthday party with family friends and all the staff in Mumford House.

"She has always been happy here and settled in well.”

During her 100 years, Mrs Palmer has seen 29 prime ministers take office.

She still enjoys trips to the seaside, shopping and listening to music.
