A TEACHER with a talent for unlocking pupils’ potential could soon be the winner of a national award.

Jolene Swan, a Year Six teacher at Brightlingsea Junior School, is one of 64 finalists from 20,000 teachers who were nominated across the country for the Pearson Teaching Awards.

She will attend a ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London where she will find out if she has won.

Miss Swan, 27, who has taught at the school in Eastern Road since September 2011, said: “I’m really looking forward to it, it will be a really nice experience and I have already met all the other finalists, who were lovely.”

Miss Swan, from Thorrington, was nominated by the parents of a pupil she taught last year.

The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC2 show Britain’s Classroom Heroes on Sunday, October 25 at 6pm.
