COLCHESTER Military Wives Choir will be rubbing shoulders with the stars after being picked to perform at a glitzy charity concert.

They have been invited to perform at the West End Heroes event at London’s Dominion Theatre, on Sunday.

Anne Mclachlan, secretary, said the women, who rehearse weekly at Montgomery Infant School, in Baronswood Way, were delighted to have been asked to take part.

She said: “We are all absolutely over the moon and nobody can quite believe it.

“The organiser of the event knows some people at the Colchester Garrison and they asked if we wanted to take part.

“We have already done lots of big concerts, including at Portcullis House in Westminster.

“Everybody is so excited.”

Cast members from West End smash Elf the Musical, ex-Girls Aloud singer-turned-actress Kimberley Walsh and the country’s favourite pantomime dame Christopher Biggins are also on the bill.

Colchester Military Wives Choir was formed in 2012 to help the partners of soldiers based at Colchester Garrison meet other Armed Forces families.

Last year, the gala raised a staggering £78,243 for Forces charity Help for Heroes.

Mr Biggins, who will host the event and take part in a selection of song and dance numbers, said: “It’s a wonderful way for the West End to show their appreciation for all that our lovely service folk do for us and to support such a worthy charity.”
