TALKS aimed at averting a strike by Tube workers broke down and the walkout will go ahead from this evening.

Members of four unions are due to strike for 24 hours from 6.30pm in a dispute over all-night Tube services.

There has been a warning that there could be no tube services at all on Thursday due to the strikes.

Transport for London (TfL) says there will be more buses, boats and bikes but the majority of tube passengers could be left with much longer journeys.

Commuters have been advised to finish work early and make sure they are off public transport by 6pm tonight.

TfL say tube services are expected to be exceptionally busy between 16:00 and 18:00 and will begin to stop running after this time.

Bus

During the strike, TfL will put around 200 extra buses on the roads to help people get around.

Diversions will be in place in the City of London on Thursday 9 July from 18:30 until 20:30 for the Standard Chartered Great City Race, affecting bus routes 4, 8, 11, 21, 23, 25, 26, 43, 56, 76, 100, 133, 141, 153, 172, 214, 242, 271, 388, and 521.

Buses are expected to be very busy and customers are asked to bear with the transport staff who are at work and trying to help them get around.

National Rail

Chiltern Railways services will not stop at stations between Marylebone and Great Missenden:

Travelling southbound in the morning peak
Travelling northbound in the evening peak

Chiltern trains travelling in the opposite direction at these times will stop at stations between Marylebone and Great Missenden as usual.

There will be no First Great Western services between Paddington and Greenford for 48 hours from 18:00 on Wednesday 8 July as a result of separate strike action.

All other National Rail services will operate as normal, however these are expected to be much busier than usual on Wednesday afternoon and at peak times on Thursday as a result of customers using alternative routes.

River

We will operate extra river services on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 July between:

Central London and Canary Wharf
Central London and Putney

Emirates Air Line

The Emirates Air Line will remain open until midnight on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 July. Oyster and Travelcards will be accepted.

Drivers

To help keep traffic flowing, the Congestion Charge will remain in operation throughout the strike.

We will be delaying or curtailing roadworks on major London roads wherever possible and have encouraged all London boroughs to take similar measures on their network. We will also work with the Metropolitan Police to minimise the impact of congestion.

Road closures will be in place in the City of London from 18:30 until 20:30 on Thursday 9 July for the Standard Chartered Great City Race, affecting City Road, Finsbury Pavement, Chiswell Street, Beech Street, Aldersgate Street, Montague Street, King Edward Street, Newgate Street, St Martins Le Grand, Gresham Street, Wood Street, Cheapside, Poultry, Princes Street, Lothbury, Bartholomew Lane, Threadneedle Street, Old Broad Street, London Wall, Moorgate.

Londoners and commuters are encouraged to keep journeys by car to a minimum to enable public transport to move freely.
