A CRASH involving seven vehicles has happened on the A12 at the junction for Stanway.

Emergency services are currently on the scene of the incident on the northbound section of the road, between junctions 26 and 27.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said there were reports of five vehicles being involved.

"We were called at 4.05pm to the A12 at Stanway.

"We have on scene two officers and two paramedics."

4.55pm

Two patients are understood to have sustained minor injures, according to the ambulance service.

One of those patients is, however, trapped in one of the vehicles involved.

The road is now blocked between junction 26 and junction 27.

Traffic is stationary back to junction 23 for Kelvedon.

5.10pm

Fire Engines from Colchester, Tiptree and Halstead were called to the scene.

A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said crews freed one man trapped inside one of the cars by 4.27pm.

They have now left the scene.

5.20pm

 Essex Police has urged motorists to find alternative routes following the crash.  

The three carriageways are blocked and traffic officers have closed the road at junction 26.

The vehicles involved in the collision are a white Ford KA, a blue Ford Escort, a silver Vauxhall Zafira, a silver Renault panel van, a white Ford Fiesta, a white Ford Transit panel van and a tipper lorry. 

One driver is believed to have suffered minor injuries and is receiving medical treatment. 

The incident is on-going and police would like to thank motorists for their patience whilst the road is cleared.
