Air Ambulance called to treat child, 9, hurt in play area

Emergency services have been called to a play park in Mill Road, Colchester, to treat a nine-year-old.

The child is trapped under a see-saw due to his injuries.

Firefighters have been called to the scene to try and cut him free.

They are currently taking apart the see-saw to get him out.

The Essex Air Ambulance is due to arrive shortly.

Officers from Essex Police have closed the road

Firefighters have cut away the spring-loaded see-saw and lifted it away.

Medics are now treating the child.

The play area is run by Colchester Council.

The road is still closed near Defoe Crescent.

The child, believed to be a nine-year-old boy, is now being placed into the air ambulance.

A CHILD was trapped while playing on a see-saw.

The boy, aged nine, was playing with friends in a play area in Mill Road, Colchester, when he became trapped by the spring-loaded see-saw.

Firefighters spent an hour cutting the play equipment from its mount in order to allow medics access to the boy, who they feared had sustained neck and spinal injuries.

He was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge for further assessment. 

The incident took place shortly after 4pm yesterday, opposite Myland Community Primary School.

It is not clear if the boy is a pupil at the school.

Parents and children gathered around the greenspace to watch drama unfold.  

Essex Police closed Mill Road at Defoe Crescent to allow the air ambulance to land.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said medics were called to the scene and found a boy trapped by a see-saw.
