Zoo bosses in Colchester are urging visitors to let the train take the strain to get people to leave their cars at home.
They have teamed up with rail officials to devise special train tickets to Colchester which include entry into the zoo.
Visitors arriving at Colchester station will be able to jump on an open-top bus for a tour of the town on their way to the top tourist attraction.
New Welcome to Colchester signs, featuring the zoo's logo, have been unveiled on station platforms.
Zoo spokesman Alex Downing said: "The zoo is particularly keen to encourage visitors to use public transport as it is more sustainable than using cars."
