Sunday afternoon motorists are being urged to steer clear of Colchester town centre later this month.
The town is preparing for the Scouts' St George's Day parade, which is scheduled for April 22.
As High Street is to be closed on safety grounds between 2pm and 3.30pm, Colchester Council is introducing temporary measures to help people travelling through the neighbouring Dutch Quarter.
The Scouts' parade, involving hundreds of the Colchester area's Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, is particularly important this year as it is the movement's centenary.
It starts at the Britannia car park, St Botolph's, and heads off to Colchester town hall, High Street, via Osborne Street, St John's Street and Head Street.
After mayor Richard Gower takes the salute, it will continue, via Museum Street, to Castle Park for a service near the bandstand.
