The last ever service at Colchester's Garrison Church takes place on Sunday - sparking fears over the landmark building's future.
The Army is moving out of the 150-year-old church and into a new place of worship on the new garrison.
MP Bob Russell is concerned about what will happen to the old building - believed to be the largest wooden church in Britain.
"The Garrison Church - sometimes called Camp Church - is arguably the most important and most historic military building in Colchester," he said.
"It is a landmark building. I am deeply concerned as to what the future holds for it."
The building was earmarked as a potential home for a museum in the past.
However, Army bosses say there are no proposals for the building, in Military Road.
Mr Russell said Colchester Council should had done more to find a future use for the building and was urging people to come forward with ideas.
- The new garrison church opens on April 15 with a special dedication service.
