Drinkers filled a bottle with coins in memory of a pub landlady who died of breast cancer.
Denise Duncan died last July at the age of 59, and customers at the Dragoon, on Butt Road, decided to raise money for the Mary Barron Suite at Essex County Hospital, where she was treated.
Drinkers filled an oversized whisky bottle with change, and two nurses went along to the pub to count the coins.
A total of £284.85 was collected, and landlord Andy Duncan paid tribute to the "generosity and understanding" of punters.
