A disabled cycling enthusiast - who once rode around England - is preparing for a three-hour fundraiser.

Alex Jaggers, of the Little Clacton-based Lynch Mob, a disabled and able-bodied club, is doing a sponsored ride on an exercise bike at Clacton Leisure Centre.

The 73-year-old, of Waldegrave Way, Lawford, was injured in a car crash in 1970 which left him in a coma for three months.

Despite suffering serious injuries, he was able to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats on a tricycle in 1976.

An illness called MSA, which affects his balance, means he can only ride an exercise bike - but he is still determined to raise money for trips out for disabled members of the group.

His wife, Carol Jaggers, said: "Doctors told him he would never be able to walk or talk again when he had his accident, but he proved them wrong."
