A GP surgery is still planning to move to a new leisure and restaurant complex, despite lengthy negotiations holding up the project.
A scheme to change the Victoria Street bus park into a development featuring restaurants, a gym, a GP surgery and a town square is expected to be up and running by 2017.
Despite chosen developer Henry Boot missing two deadlines to submit an application so far, Braintree’s Mount Chambers Surgery is intent on sticking with the plans.
Practice manager Peter Hadfield said: "Mount Chambers Surgery is very keen to progress this project.
“We think our patients will benefit enormously from new, modern and larger premises in the heart of Braintree.
“All parties are working hard to conclude our negotiations so the project can begin as soon as possible.”
Braintree Council chief executive Nicola Beach said the complex could transform Braintree into a night-time destination for all the family.
