An elderly couple were left shaken after a gang of yobs hurled eggs through their letterbox.

Police were called to the house in Wick Road, Langham, shortly after the attack at 11.50pm on Saturday.

Officers said the couple, who are both in their 70s, were woken up as a group of youths pelted their home with the dairy product - opening the letter box and throwing eggs in the couple's hallway.

The male occupant of the house chased away the youths before raising the alarm.

Search units were sent to the scene and carried out a hunt for the culprits, but to no avail.

Police were also called to Southern Fried Chicken after owners of the fast-food restaurant reported youths had pelted it with eggs.

Officers attended the scene at St Botolph's Street, Colchester, shortly after midnight on Sunday.
