Heavy showers are responsible for a number of flooding incidents across north Essex.

Motorists using the Colne View Retail Park, on Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, were forced to splash their way through the water to reach the shops.

Steady rain throughout the weekend led to "torrents" of water running down the roads of Eight Ash Green.

Colchester councillor Dennis Willetts (Con, West Bergholt and Eight Ash Green) said he was concerned the water was causing a hazard on the A1124.

"I tend to drive around a bit at the weekends and the rain seemed to last all day, even if it wasn't that heavy," he said.

"The only area which I particularly noticed as flooded was Daisy Green but the water was running down the road in torrents."

A spokesman for the Environment Agency explained the flooding had not been caused by any rivers bursting their banks.

She said: "We haven't had any reports of flooded rivers, so we believe this has been due to surface water."
