The wheels are in motion for a BMX track and skate park in Colchester's Shrub End.
Dorothy Stewart and her 14-year-old son Andrew launched a campaign for the facility in Shrub End late last year, and today hailed "great progress".
Mrs Stewart, of Smallwood Road, recently met with ward councillors and representatives of Colchester Council, Essex Police, Essex Youth Service, Alderman Blaxill School and Colchester United Community Sports Trust to discuss the proposal.
"It's amazing how quickly the authorities have said yes and been so positive about the project," Mrs Stewart said. "They must know that there's nothing in Shrub End for teenagers."
The track is planned for the Boadicea Way playing fields, at the corner of Layer Road and Boadicea Way, and has a working title of Sk8 Cre8 - Shrub End.
The next step for the project, with an estimated cost of £80,000, will be a series of meetings with teenagers to discuss what they want.
