A man has appeared in court accused of stabbing the mother of his eight children to death.
Anthony Sweeney, 36, spoke to confirm his name and date of birth, at Colchester Magistrates' Court.
His wife, Lisa Sweeney was stabbed in their home in Henry Laver Court, Balkerne Heights, Colchester, on Wednesday. The 34-year-old was certified dead at the scene.
Sweeney entered no plea at Friday's hearing and no application for bail was made.
The case was sent straight to the crown court to be dealt with and he was remanded into custody until the next hearing.
