A HELICOPTER pursuit helped police catch two suspects 30 miles from the scene of a burglary in Witham.

Police were called to Harebell Drive, at 10.20am on Tuesday after a gang of men were spotted acting suspiciously in the area in a Ford Fiesta.

Jewellery and an Audi TT car were stolen from a home.

A search began from land and air and the police helicopter picked up a Ford Fiesta near Chelmsford.

It was followed at high speed along the A12, M25 and A127.

Two men were arrested in Romford at 5.10pm.

Two men have been charged with burglary and theft of a car and jewellery worth £31,000.

Vincent O’Brien, 24, and James Maughan, 19, both of Long Green, Cressing, were due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Detectives are still searching for the Audi which was last seen on the A130 and believed to be heading the direction of Wickford.
