MULTIPLE collisions on the A12 caused traffic misery for commuters this morning.

Two vehicles blocked a lane after a crash on the southbound carriageway near Hatfield Peverel with delays stretching to Witham.

The collision happened at about 7.30am.

A second collision shortly after, near Kelvedon on the same carriageway, extended tailbacks to Colchester.

Two vehicles were involved.

Crashes close to slip roads added to the problems.

An ambulance was called after a two vehicle collision on London Road, Kelvedon, at 7.36am but the injuries were not severe.

By 10am all lanes were believed to have been reopened.

North Essex commuters also faced problems travelling further afield.

Several roads were closed after a large tyre fire close to the Fairglen Interchange between the A127 and A130 in South Essex.

Closures were expected to remain in place for most of the day.

There are also speed restrictions in place on the A12 between Colchester and Ipswich due to resurfacing work.
