A MAN was struck in the face with an iron during a row over growling dogs.

Police were called to Corry Court, off Hickory Avenue, Greenstead after the argument exploded into violence.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police are appealing for information after a man in his 40s was assaulted by a fellow dog walker while out in Colchester.

"At around 11am, on Tuesday February 3, the victim was involved in a verbal argument with a fellow dog walker after their animals growled at each other on a grassy area near Corry Court."

The suspect was walking a brown Chow Chow when he stopped and kicked the victim's dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier .

He then went to pick up an iron before coming back and smashing it into the face of the owner of the Staffie.

The victim had to go to hospital for treatment.

The suspect is white, 6ft 2ins tall, of slim build with short black hair.
