THE sponsor of a new £5million academy school planned for north Colchester is expected to be revealed soon.
Plans for the 420-pupil school currently being assessed by Essex County Council.
If approved, it will be built on land off the Northern Approach Road, next to the former Severalls Hospital.
Ray Gooding, county councillor responsible for education, said: “The planning application has been submitted. We are expecting the decision on the sponsor for the academy to be announced by the Department for Education in the near future.”
The school is being proposed to help cope with growing demand for school places because of the huge number of homes being built in the area.
Work is expected to begin next spring with the first pupils starting in September 2016.
