TO look at Paul and Carole Hills you would think they are just like any other couple holding hands, albeit on their mobility scooters.

But take a second glance and you might spot all is not as it seems.

The pair are featured on Channel 5’s Age Gap Love after it emerged Carole, 69, is a quarter of a century older than Paul, 44.

They have always shied away from talking about their relationship.

But after being approached for the “sugar daddy” episode, admitted they have finally come round to shouting about it.

Paul, of Jasmine Close, Colchester, said: “We always got approached quite a lot by the media and we have never really wanted to do it.

“But the time just felt right for us.

“The programme went really well, it was a great experience.

The main couple in the show were billionaires. Sadly, I’m not one of those.

“I was concerned they would take the mickey, but it was perfect.”

Paul and Carole met 23 years ago when she was finding gigs for the budding singer and guitarist in Portsmouth.

The pair hit it off, despite Paul then being 21 and Carole 46.

It wasn’t long before Carole hinted at marriage.

But Paul asked to wait for two years to make sure they would work out.

They have now been married for 21 years and can often by spotted around Colchester holding hands on their mobility scooters.

Paul said: “We were out partying and dancing all the time.

It was all sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. In the end, we got married in 1994.

“The negativity was there, though.

“My family were very understanding, but my mumwas a little bit worried about how it would work out. But we have just had great fun.”

Although friends and family worried Paul would end up looking after Carole in her old age, in fact the reverse has happened.

Paul said: “I got osteoarthritis and can’t do very much. I spend a lot of time in bed and can only go out on my mobility scooter. Carole actually takes care of me.

“She is brilliant and I want everyone to know that.

“This isn’t how it should be. I should be looking after her.

“We didn’t have any children and while we looked at adopting, it wasn’t meant to be. But I have Carole, and she is amazing.”

The programme is due to be re-aired this month.
