MOTORISTS faced lengthy tailbacks on the A12 because of a pothole.

One lane of the London-bound stretch of the road was closed between junctions 21 and 22 after the pothole was reported at 7.30am.

Traffic was queuing back to junction 25 at Marks Tey.

A Highways Agency spokesman  said: "The lane was closed because of a hole in the road.

"We got a team out straight away and the police assisted us through.

"The hole was filled in and all lanes were re-opened before 9.30am."

It was the second day of disruption for motorists using the A12.

On Tuesday a serious crash between two lorries caused 20-mile tailbacks and partially blocked the A12 for seven-and-a-half hours.
Beleagured commuters again faced delays on the London-bound carriageway of the notorious road after one of the lorries shed its load of towels across several lanes.
The crash took place between Boreham and Sandon at about 5am.
By 9am, queus stretched past Colchester.
