A LORRY driver arrested after a serious collision on the A120 was not drinking or taking drugs.
The 51-year-old man was initially arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
But now officers have decided the incident had nothing to do with drink or drugs and their enquiries are continuing.
Insp Steve Brewer, of Stanway Road Policing Unit, said: "We carried out tests on the night and we are satisfied that the driver was not under the influence of drink or drugs.
“He has been bailed to return to the police station at a later date and our investigations continue.”
The driver of a Volkswagen Golf miraculously escaped after the collision - with a Scania skip lorry and a Volvo lorry - which took place in Little Tey on Tuesday, December 9.
She remains in a stable condition at the Royal London Hospital.
Anyone who saw the crash but have not yet spoken to police should contact PC Dave Scott on 101.
