DOZENS of drivers were reprimanded for misbehaving on Colchester’s roads.

Three weeks ago police seized ten cars and another five were taken later during a follow-up road safety operation.

Three people were arrested as part of Operation Nash for drug possession, driving while disqualified and breaching bail.

The operation is designed to improve safety on Colchester roads.

Mobile patrols and designated stopping points were set up around the town during the joint operation by the emergency services and Essex County Council.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “This is all part of an ongoing campaign to improve driving standards and rid the road of dangerous or uninsured drivers.”

In total, 119 vehicles were stopped.

Of those, 37 drivers who were not wearing seatbelts and 29 who were driving while speaking on mobile phones, will be sent on driver education courses.

As well as five cars seized, four people were reported for driving without insurance and another for driving without a licence.

Two were stopped for speeding and five for not having valid MOTs.

Five others were stopped for having illegal window tinting or number plates.
