TIRED residents were kept awake for more than five hours when the fire alarm and evacuation tannoy at Colchester United’s ground went off – and the emergency services could not get in touch with key holders to turn it off.
The Weston Homes Community Stadium’s loud alarm system could be heard across the Highwoods estate in the early hours of Friday morning.
It started at about 1.30am and could still be heard at 6.30am.
When people called the fire service and the police, but were told no one was able to track down the people with keys to the building.
