POLICE carried out 28 raids across Colchester.

They targeted drug dealers, burglars, drunks and people who have failed to attend court or pay fines.

A total of 24 special constables were involved in the operation – a bid by Essex Police to highlight the good work the volunteers do and try and get more people to sign up.

On Friday night, eight officers and 12 specials took part in 16 raids on the homes of people who have jumped bail or ignored fines.

Two were arrested.

Officers were also out in force in the town centre, but only made one arrest for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

On Saturday, officers carried out drugs raids at two homes.
