STUDENTS have rated Essex University the sixth best in the country.

The university achieved a record overall satisfaction rating of 91 per cent in the National Student Survey, it was revealed today.

The survey found 89 per cent of students were happy with the teaching they received, while 83 per cent rated their learning resources and 84 per cent said studies had helped their personal development.

High levels of support were also recorded for academic support, management and assessment and feedback. Thirteen out of Essex’s schools achieved satisfaction scores of 90 per cent or more.

Top performing subjects included nursing, computer science, European languages, philosophy and performing and other creative arts.

Professor Aletta Norval, pro-vice-chancellor for education, said: “Giving our students a learning experience that helps them to grow and develop is our highest priority.

“We are committed to a research-led education, where students learn to challenge, to argue and to generate new knowledge, developing the skills they need for a fulfilling future.”

Students’ Union president Chantel Le Carpentier added: “The Union believes in the University’s commitment to excellence in both research and education and that we cannot have excellent research without delivering that in the classroom.”

Of course they are and so they should be. But this report has got nothing to do with that, its a feel good factor article, after the incident there. The university has no chancellor the vices are running the show. Mind you the head honcho never did much anyhow, the vice's have the real power. As for the Student Union ! Spineless no back bone, powerless blue blood middle class wannabes. I remember the days of the 80' s when they protested for everything, since they had their grants removed by THATCH, they are like poodles with no teeth ! Of course its a good Uni but has nothing to do with the Student Union or the pathetic discriminating management that run the place.
