Anyone tackling the London Marathon needs a lot of puff - and Neil Williams is no exception.

Mr Williams has lived with asthma all his life, but will not let that get in the way of his ambition - to complete the event's 26 miles in under three hours.

The 34-year-old hopes to raise £3,000 for the Asthma UK charity, and has sought the help of north Essex businesses to help him achieve his goal.

One, the Clarice House health club, has offered to host a casino night and auction, complete with champagne and canapes, on Friday, February 2.

For his part, Mr Williams, of Spring Lane, Lexden, Colchester, is running between 60 and 70 miles a week in training.

  • Tickets for the 7.30pm casino night cost £35 each, and include champagne, canapes and a £10 donation to Asthma UK. They are available from Clarice House on 01206 734301.
