Villagers endured five hours without electricity after power cables were brought down on a main road.
A vehicle brought down cables in Swan Street, Sible Hedingham, at about 5.42pm on Tuesday and residents called the emergency services when they saw sparks.
Firefighters spent about one-and-a-half hours directing traffic and clearing the road until EDF Energy engineers restored power.
About 15 homes were affected and most were back on at 10.30pm, the remaining two were reconnected at 11.45pm.
