Three young boys were caught with the help of the police helicopter after an attempted break in at a cricket club.

The teenagers, aged 12, 13 and 14, fled after police arrived at Elmstead Grasshoppers Cricket Club in Church Road at about 6pm on Sunday.

They had been spotted trying to break into a shed in the grounds.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “They ran off on police arrival but the police helicopter was able to located them and they were arrested.

“They received a police caution for burglary trespass.”

The spokesman confirmed it was the trio’s first offence and so the caution was deemed suitable.

What I say is make them do unpaid work at the club then that would benefit the club & hopefully make them think of what they have done wrong?

Pretty sure it was Monday night as the chopper was over Elmstead at that time for about 20 minutes. Cost in fuel-circa 2K. Is this really a crime that warrants a helicopter. 3 lads attempting to break in to an old shed!

Seems a little OTT to me. A few bored kids getting on the wrong side of the law.

Where's the heli when people are being attacked or mugged in town?

I would like to put you all straight about this incident .
These three boys broke into my house and smashed my kitchen window , then caused £ 700.00 of damage to various items .
They tried to start fires in the house , so to find out they also did other crimes I was shocked.
I have lived in Elmstead Market for 20 years and have never heard of kids acting like this .
I received two apology letters from two brothers , its only a matter of time until I find out who they are .
I would like the parents of these children to take responsibility and pay for the damages as its not my fault and I don't see why I should be out of pocket .
You can also speak to the dealing officer and he will give you my contact details if you would like to discuss this matter.
