MOTORISTS are facing long delays after a three-vehicle crash closed the southbound A12.
The crash occurred at 5pm at junction 26 at Eight Ash Green but two lanes are still closed.
An Essex Police spokesman said the accident had been caused by a lorry driving into the back of another vehicle.
About five cars were involved.
Three fire crews from Colchester and one crew from Tiptree freed a person trapped inside a vehicle.
The vehicles involved are awaiting recovery.
Queues are stretching beyond junction 29, Ardleigh Crown.
The incident has had a knock-on effect on town centre traffic, which is busy near to North Station, Cowdray Avenue, Balkerne Hill and Avenue of Remembrance.
