Gazette: New plan for more Turner Rise stores New plan for more Turner Rise stores

PLANS to upgrade a Colchester retail centre, which promises to create 80 jobs, have been unveiled.

A Costa Coffee, a second food and drink outlet, two 9,600 sq ft stores and a square for craft fairs and food markets could be created at Turner Rise, in north Colchester.

Applicant Schroeder UK has also said it will come up with a traffic plan to deal with queues of traffic of shoppers trying to leave the retail park, which also includes Asda supermarket.

We don't visit this shopping centre simply because of the time it takes to get out when you leave at times.

Cant see how this would work unless they are considering a road out across the bottom end of High Woods country park and connect to Ipswich road, after all High Woods is such a waste of prime development land. It would also open that up to full development and perhaps we can get rid of this green blot on our landscape, the same as we have removed all others?

Only go to fill up but avoid at other times due to traffic. Like to know what the plan will be to deal with additional traffic.

There won't be one. ECC don't care about Colchester!

Fantastic to get more investment into this side of town. Need to get North Station sorted out though. Needs to be some sort of through road built through the old Cowdray Centre going over or under the railway. A lot of money that is probably impossible to find at the moment but if there's money to build these centres there is money to build the infrastructure.

Traffic management - what a joke. The idots from Colchester and Essex Councils who allowed this development in the first place were totally incompetent. The single track dead-end road to nowhere, which COULD have carried on and under the railway would have avoid all this hassle.

NO infrustructure is planned for any development in this town and the road system is basically (with the exception of Balkerne Hill and the Southway/Westway link) what it was in the 60's. So much for progress.

Have been saying the same thing for years.

This idea could also work if it was only a one way system

What a great idea!
I live not far from here and would save me having to travel in to town for my coffee hit! So less traffic, less pollution and more spaces in town for those that really need it!

Or you could buy a decent coffee machine. Costa is overrated in my opinion. Much prefer fresh coffee made at home.
